Introducing Dana Huggett, our WOW 1 DAY PAINTING Franchise Partner in Bellingham, WA. A former ER nurse, Dana is ready to take control of her future, and build something of her own. Here, she talks about why she chose the home services industry, why she believes in franchising, and what she's looking forward to most in her new chapter as a business owner.
What made you want to own a WOW 1 DAY PAINTING business?
For many years I have wanted to build something of my own, I want to be in control of the outcome. There have been a few life altering events recently and it became abundantly clear that now was the time to make the move away from nursing. My husband Will and I have moved 18 times in 25 years and have always made improvements to the home we lived in (even if they were rentals). I love design and making things beautiful!
What do you see as the benefits of franchising, why did you decide to go down the franchising route?
The benefits are that there are systems already in place, there is a roadmap for success. Also, you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. That's important to me, the sense of community and partnership. The onus is on me for the success but I have coaches guiding me, and eventually I think it will be great to be the one helping and cheering for the new franchise owners that join the system.
Why now, what was it that made you take the leap? What did you do before this?
In 2020 our family experienced two very tragic events, and we just felt like it was the push we needed to make a big life change. I was an ER nurse for many years, and funny enough it was not COVID that pushed me out. Life can be very short and I want to make the most of every moment I have.
How did you hear about WOW 1 DAY PAINTING originally?
James Alisch [a Managing Director at O2E Brands] and his wife, Shauna, are very dear friends. We have known them for 20 years now. He is the reason I have such faith in WOW 1 DAY PAINTING.
What are you looking forward to most about being a WOW 1 DAY PAINTING owner?
I'm most looking forward to building my team, meeting new people and creating life on my own terms. My big goal is to expand further south into the Seattle area and beyond.
Tell us about your territory - what makes it unique?
Bellingham is a great area, and has grown exponentially in recent years. The natural beauty of the area is amazing. We have mountains, lakes, ocean, islands with a never ending trail system to hike. It is very obvious to me why we have had such an influx of new residents as you can not beat the location!
Finally, what do you like to do outside of work - what are your interests and passions?
We have 4 children (Madeline, 19, Cailtin, 16, Gabrielle, 15, Gavin, 12) 1 dog and 2 cats! They keep us pretty busy, but we love to entertain friends (can't wait to get back to that), hike and I like to bake. There is never a dull moment in the Huggett House!
