I want to build a future for my son

Jon Roberson has dreamed about business ownership since high school. Now he's taking the leap, and he's not letting anything hold him back. In fact, he's got plans... big plans. Here's Jon:

Hi Jon - let's start with the big one: what made you want to own a business?

I've wanted to own a business since I was in high school. It was actually the main reason I went to college as opposed to going down a different route after school - I wanted to educate myself on the financial side of running a business and how that works.

Why now? What made this the right time for you to take the leap, do you think?

It was my most recent job that really gave me the urge to take the leap now. I was working for a small business owner who taught me a lot, and gave me an in depth look at what goes into running a business. At the same time, I felt limited and a little frustrated, because the owner was very hands-on and had trouble with letting people take charge to solve problems. I really felt it was time to go out on my own and be my own boss - especially with my new young addition to the family! I want to get started on my life goals, and build a future for my son.

What was it about WOW 1 DAY PAINTING that appealed to you?

I first heard about the brand from a franchise consultant I was working with for several months. The promptness of the phone calls and the structure of the discovery process just seemed really well put together to me. I had meetings with other companies who weren't as friendly or just didn't call me at all - this felt different. Ultimately though I decided to choose WOW 1 DAY PAINTING because I could really feel the energy and passion from everyone I spoke with - and I knew I'd get a tremendous amount of support to help with my success. It's why I chose franchising - being a first-time business owner, I really wanted to buy in to a proven system, and have the support... especially when starting up.

How has the virtual aspect of the process been, due to current travel restrictions meaning new Franchise Partners can't visit our HQ, the Junktion?

The virtual aspect has been great! I genuinely feel that I am still able to get as much support as I need - I don't have to leave the country to get that, and I can train with my neighboring Franchise Partners safely in person. Also it makes me feel like a CEO or something having all of these Zoom meetings!

What are you looking forward to most about being a WOW 1 DAY PAINTING owner?

Watching people on my team grow and achieve their own success, and being able to help make that happen. I want to take this business as far as I can go, and I want to expand to as many territories around me as possible. I'm young now with a young family, so I know that growing the business will allow me to have more personal freedom as time goes on, and more time to spend with my family.

What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?

I guess you could say I am very much into basketball! Playing, watching... I even sat on the bench and tried to coach a few games one summer. I also worked at the Palace where the Detroit Pistons used to play. That was a fun job.

And finally, tell us about your territory, Detroit - what makes it unique?

I've lived near my territory my whole life, and what makes it unique is that there's a lot of pride for Detroit around here. People love the revitalization of the city, and it is a great comeback story.

Thanks Jon - we can't wait to watch you grow your business!
